BENGALURU: The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department reportedly inspected a Zomato warehouse in Bengaluru on Wednesday, a day after officials sealed a Zepto warehouse in the city over alleged unhygienic conditions and safety violations.
According to reports, food safety officials also visited a Hyperpure by Zomato facility at Sakalawara on Tuesday. The facility, located on Bannerghatta Road, was inspected to check food products, though officials have not issued a statement on the latest inspection.
Alleged violations at Hyperpure facility
An earlier inspection by the Food Safety and Drug Administration reportedly found lapses related to labelling, licensing and storage of several products at the Sakalawara facility, which supplies food and other products to hotels. However, the premises were reportedly found to be clean and well-maintained.
Officials reportedly found 146 kg of chicken without the manufacturer’s FSSAI licence number. They also found 40 kg of garlic sourced from a manufacturer whose FSSAI licence was reportedly invalid.
The inspection team also flagged alleged mislabelling involving 300 kg of rice, 20 kg of dry fruits and 15 kg of masala among packaged products. In addition, 10 kg of imported radish pickle was reportedly not stored under the required refrigerated conditions.
The department collected 40 samples, including five legal samples and 35 survey samples, for further examination. A notice was reportedly issued to the Zomato Hyperpure unit, with further legal action likely depending on the findings.
Zepto warehouse sealed in Bengaluru
The inspections come amid intensified food safety checks across Bengaluru. The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department recently sealed a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district following a surprise inspection.
Officials inspected the facility to assess the quality, safety, storage, labelling and handling of food products under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and FSSAI Rules, 2011.
The department said the warehouse was sealed with immediate effect after officials found unhygienic conditions during the inspection.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has warned that strict legal action will be taken against food business operators found violating food safety regulations. Officials have also said special inspection drives will continue across the state to ensure consumers have access to safe, hygienic and quality food.
