BENGALURU: In a historic first, Bengaluru’s children will be given an extraordinary opportunity to step inside the iconic Vidhana Soudha and experience the State’s Grand Assembly Hall firsthand as part of the “Freedom Habba” celebrations on August 15. For countless young citizens, the initiative offers an unprecedented look into Karnataka’s seat of democracy where the state’s legislative processes unfold.
Children Become the Gateway for Families
Under this special initiative, children participating in Freedom Habba will effectively serve as the entry pass for their families. Parents accompanying their children will also be granted entry into the historic building and the Grand Assembly Hall. Organizers highlight this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for families to collectively explore one of Bengaluru’s most recognized landmarks and experience the venue of the state’s democratic foundation.
The day’s itinerary extends well beyond a standard guided tour, offering an array of dedicated activities including a Makkala Mela, interactive learning games, storytelling sessions, arts and crafts, creative workshops, and family-oriented activities. A specially designed Children’s Freedom Village will bring historical freedom fighters to life through live performers, complete with educational quizzes, interactive learning modules, and instant rewards.
Immersive Cultural and Educational Experience
The event aims to transform Independence Day into an experiential occasion rather than a passive observation. Alongside access to Vidhana Soudha, young visitors can explore a Living Museum of the freedom movement, walk through the Karnataka Freedom Path, engage in Constitution Square activities, and participate in broader cultural events surrounding the complex. The initiative provides parents and children a shared platform blending curiosity, historical learning, and civic awareness.
Fostering Democracy and Citizenship
Placing children at the center of the event is intended to build a deeper understanding of freedom, democracy, and civic responsibility in the younger generation.
“We are opening the doors of the Vidhana Soudha to our children. I want every child who walks through those doors on August 15 to go home with a memory that lasts a lifetime. We want our children to celebrate not only our freedom, but also to understand the values, institutions, and shared citizenship that sustain our democracy,” stated Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
Freedom Habba: A People-Led Celebration
Freedom Habba is designed as a pioneering, community-driven Independence Day event, converting August 15 into a full-day public celebration. Held under the theme “Namma Ooru. Nimma Ooru. Ellara Bengaluru,” the festivities around Vidhana Soudha will feature cultural performances, an India Parade, regional cuisine, traditional crafts, district-themed freedom struggle pavilions, and live musical activities, bringing together families and artists from across Karnataka and India.
