Actor Dia Mirza on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the ongoing student protests, expressing disappointment over his remarks in a note shared on Instagram.
Students have been staging a protest at Jantar Mantar since June 20, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. They have also sought reforms in the examination system and justice for students affected by paper leak incidents.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi announced on X that fast-track courts would be established to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment for those involved in examination paper leaks.
Reacting to the announcement, Mirza said the Prime Minister’s statement failed to address the concerns of students and their families who have been affected by the controversy.
In her response, she said there was “not one word of empathy” for parents who had lost their children, for students who had died, for those continuing to fight for their rights, and for Sonam ji and the students who had observed a hunger strike for several weeks.
She further wrote that it had taken 47 days for the Prime Minister to respond, adding that his statement offered no reassurance or comfort to the millions of people whose hopes and hearts had been deeply affected by the issue.
Mirza had earlier voiced support for the student movement on social media, stating that she stood with the students and backed their right to peaceful protest while calling for greater accountability, transparency and reforms in the education system.
